Using Stylesheets with IE 5
Page 7
Wrapping Up
As I mentioned at the beginning, there's a whole lot more to CSS2 than these features. Because we care about only what's actually supported, I didn't go into the rest of CSS2, but here's a little teaser:
- New selectors child selectors, adjacent sibling selectors, and attribute selectors
- More fun effects, such as text-shadow and font-stretch
- Color keywords that match users' system colors
- Outlines
- New CSS control over HTML table content
- Automatic display of content that isn't in the document itself
- Paged media specify page size, margins, orphans, etc.
- Aural stylesheets control voice, volume, speech rate, pitch, background sounds, spatial properties, etc.
Word on the street is that Gecko, which will probably come to life as Netscape Communicator 5.0, is being developed with excellent support for CSS1 and partial support for CSS2. Time will tell what this actually means, but let's all cross our fingers.
